The Best of Reality TV

This has been an amazing year of reality television. Yes, I am one of those who loves reality TV. I think that people's natural reactions are the most entertaining. The best of the shows this season is Momma's Boys. A more appropriate name for it is "101 Ways to Embarrass Your Son in Front of All the Gorgeous Girls That He Would Give Anything to be With." Maybe that title was too long to use. If you haven't seen it, I'll compare it to the bachelor, except that the guys aren't as qualified, there are 3 of them, and all of their moms are living in the house with the girls causing all sorts of drama. Could it get any better? I submit that it cannot. Let's also throw in the fact that 2 of the moms are super protective Jewish moms. Oh it makes for such great TV. One of the moms seems to be hell-bent on destroying her son's life by fighting with every girl and destroying every chance that her son has to go on a date with an incredible woman. She embarrasses him more than I've ever seen any mom embarrass her son. Even better, she does it in front of the girls.

Here are some of my favorite happenings on the show:

When you grab a bunch of beautiful women, the odds of getting girls from unfavorable backgrounds seems pretty good. This show further played with that concept, purposefully choosing a bunch of good girls from great backgrounds that mothers would love for their sons, and then also choosing many girls that would fit the bad girl description that moms would not want for their sons. One of the guys set his sights on a specific 2 girls in the house. One of them the mom didn't like because she had posed for Playboy. The mom did everything possible to drive her son away from that girl and toward another girl. This other girl (the one the mom does like) turns out to not be a Playboy model, but instead a Penthouse model...the current Penthouse Pet of the Year. Of course she didn't tell them until the season finale. Oh what great TV to watch the reactions of the guy and his mom the first time that the girl tells them this. And so follows the best of the natural reactions. After pushing this girl on her boy the whole time, she is unable to admit that she was wrong and this girl should go home, even though she bounced the playmate for a lesser crime. Hypocrisy at it's best.

Another boy and his mom are discussing who he should choose as his girl. She wants one girl for him. He wants the other. When he tells his mom that he wants one girl because that's what makes him happy, she responds with, "It doesn't matter what makes you happy!" There's nothing like a mother's love.

The worst mom started the show off by saying that she doesn't want any girl of color dating her son. Then she proceeds to get into a fight with every African American girl on the show for absolutely no reason at all. When she meets the girls for the first time she goes up to the African American group and says, "Oh, so do you all play basketball." One day she breaks down talking to the African American women, saying, "Am I racist? I don't know. I'm so confused." Yes you are racis...and naive.

I truly hope that this show returns next year. I highly recommend it to all lovers of reality TV.
